SUMMARY:The Past as Present | In Good Company
DESCRIPTION:How we see the past shapes our understanding of the present. Scholarship defines the past as something shaped by temporal human forces\, primarily politics\, power\, and market trends. Wisdom traditions\, on the other hand\, see the past as shaped by universal\, timeless truths. In this dialog\, religious studies professor Ravi Gupta and host Joshua Greene explore competing narratives of the past\, their impact on the present and their role in shaping humanity’s future. \nGuest: Ravi M. Gupta\nRavi M. Gupta (Radhika Ramana) holds the Charles Redd Chair of Religious Studies at Utah State University. He is the author or editor of four books\, including an abridged translation of the Bhagavata Purana (with Kenneth Valpey)\, published in 2017 by Columbia University Press. Ravi has received four teaching awards\, a National Endowment for the Humanities summer fellowship\, three research fellowships\, and a book award. He is a Permanent Research Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and a past president of the Society for Hindu Christian Studies. His current research focuses on the Bhagavata Purana’s Sanskrit commentaries. He enjoys teaching World Religions\, Hinduism\, Sanskrit\, and Religious Studies Theory and Method. \nHost: Joshua M. Greene\nJoshua M. Greene (Yogesvara). Retired teacher of philosophy and religion at Hofstra University. Former monk under the guidance of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Nationwide speaker on yoga-related topics. Author of books on paths to enlightenment. \n  \nGita Wisdom – a community of like-minded yogis where we talk about making timeless\, ancient wisdom applicable to our lives right now. \nBhaktivedanta Institue for Higher Studies – center for the research and dissemination of a non-mechanistic scientific view of reality. \n REGISTER

SUMMARY:Bhagavad Gita and Kirtan
DESCRIPTION:Saturday evenings Atmanivedana das (Atma) and Subhangada dasi (Subhie) teach how to hear and chant sanskrit names for God\, especially known as Krishna\, in kirtan (accompanied by melodious and rhythmic music). Additionally\, the advanced devotees of Krishna teach a systematic study of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is. \nBhagavad-gita As It Is is studied according to an ancient chain of teachers\, starting with Krishna\, and most recently His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Srila Prabhupada)\, the founder-acharya of ISKCON (the International Society for Krishna Consciousness). Classes are on fascinating topics including karma\, reincarnation\, the soul\, the material energy\, God\, time\, and the relationship between the soul\, the material energy\, and God. \nAtma and Subhie’s program at 26 Second Avenue started in January 2011 and is meant for all\, regardless of one’s familiarity with the subject matter.

SUMMARY:Isopanishad Online
DESCRIPTION:A daily series of 30-minute Zoom presentations on the classic Bhakti text\, Sri Isopanishad\, with reading and discussion. \nThe Isopanishad is comprised of 18 verses\, the most revered of the 108 Upanishads\, which we might call the “headlines” of the Vedas\, Upa-nisa—“coming closer”\, isa—[to] the “Supreme”. \nIsopanisad begins with a general description of the Supreme\, then gets more and more intimate\, ending with a heartfelt plea\, “I love you\, I wish to serve you\, please do not forget me.” It is the condensed life of a devotee\, from head to heart\, from external to internal\, identifying the three categories of transcendental knowledge: samvit\, abhedeya\, and prayojana. Knowledge of the nature of the Supreme and the individual soul\, knowledge of the nature of the relationship between them\, and knowledge of the goal of their relationship. \nIsopanishad is available online at vedabase.io/en/library/iso/ \nHandouts for the course: The Importance of Sri Isopanishad by Satyaraja Dasa & The Sanskrit Vedic Canon \nZoom meeting ID 636-741-739\nPassword: 262829 \n💲 This series is free. If you are able to donate\, please send donations to your local yoga studio\, temple\, ashram\, etc. \nCatch up on classes -> Isopanishad YouTube playlist
